Color becomes a key player within the Cool Prep Trend. We see a blending of softer shades merge with the brights. The addition of darks create contrasting tones.
Performance fabrics drive the fabrics featuring, wrinkle resistant, stain resistant, climate control, and stretch/comfort fabrics. Cotton is also key. Nylon and polyester fabrics are important for windbreakers and jackets.

Silhouettes for men and women are squeaky clean, featuring tennis sweaters, tipping detail, khaki pants, oxford shirts, Bermuda shorts, and double breasted jackets. Stripes are every-wear, from 1 inch feeder stripes to the rugby stripes, and color blocking. The Polo and the tee shirt are key items showing contrast collars and plackets. T-shirts have a vintage feel to both the fabric and to the screen prints. Ralph Lauren has enlarged the polo player on his shirts as well as Lacoste magnifying the alligator. The working trend becomes stronger this season, featuring workwear fabrics and details. Military influences featuring the serviceman and the aviator appear. Influence also comes from the service industry such as police and mechanics. Down of the farm silhouettes also emerge.

The key colors are military tans, and greens, work wear blues and grays. The military influence take compact denims to new heights through sharp and streamlined styling. New lighter weight blends emerge but are able to withstand heavy washes and finishes. The key colors for denim are indigo, a blue black, and an antique denim with a slight gray for silver touch. Along with the sharper styling for denim we also see overalls, and the drainpipe or stovepipe jean
