The oxford shirt is a great color vehicle or the season. Slacks feature flat fronts and shorts have a single pleat. Full elastic waist bands emerge for bottoms. Denim is dark as well as sand-washed. For men and women stripes are featrued in tops, bottoms, and wovens. The rugby stripe is a key pattern. In women's, shorts become longer, at the knee or above the ankle. Cotton skirts are fuller. White bottoms look great against the stripe tops. To complete the Americana trend, madras plaids emerge for wovens and shorts. Gingham checks and polka dots return.
Fresh Start
Casual athleticism for Spring/Summer adds a sporty dimension to sportswear. It is an extension of the Americana trend but emphasis is on golf and tennis inspiration. Comfort is a key element emphasizing stretch or Lycra for fit and ease. Like the Americana trend, there is also a need for performance fabrics, mesh weaves, pique, and ribs, are key textures. The colors focus on bright, primary shades. Look towards a peddle pusher lenght for Women. Web belts are often and added feature. In menswear the full elastic pant is key as well as the flat front pant with a web belt. In both areas the polo shirt, tank top, henley, and V Neck knits are key items. Color blocking and stripes are the main focus for patterns.
Foreign Affairs
Travel around the world is a strong message this season with ethnic, handcrafted, exotic influences. Exotic looks are featured from such countries as India, Asia, and Africa. Color begins to darken. Khaki becomes warner and the browns resemble wood tones. Oranges darken featuring copper and rust. Yellow turns toward bronze and mustard. Greens focus on the jungle shades. Purple turns to plum. Touches of bright shades are added for pop. Key fabrics include sand-washed silks, and rough textured knits. Knit textures include ribbing, loose twists, nep and slub yarns. Most knits have a dry hand. Shot effects in fabrics are key such as linen, linen blends, and ramie cotton. Canvas and square weaves return. Fabrications out of india such as madras, dobby, and lkat, create an ethnic look. Heavy embellishments, ornamentation, and embroidery emerge. While most of the fabrics are natural, the prints are wild. Exotic prints such as snakeskin, animal prints, bold graphics, and tribal warrior looks emerge. Batiks, tie dye, block prints, and over-dyes return this season. The foreign affair trend is a print driven theme. Silhouettes are easy to wear with a touch of volume. This is a comfortable look. Silhouettes feature drawstring and full elastic waisbands. Pockets on tops and bottoms have a safari incluence for men and women. The wrap skirt and caftan are important in women's.
