The
maquila or apparel assembly, was considered the
initial concept of an industry where companies were dedicated
only to sewing or assembling cut pieces
provided by the client, later adding the cutting and acquisition
of accessories to the process.
But the market
has evolved during the past years towards a full package business,
where clients have to deal less and less with the diverse
product development operations, raw material supplying (fabric,
accessories, finishes, etc.) and in some cases, even with
logistics and import operations in the US market, handling
the packaging and direct distribution to stores, adding new
incoterms to the vocabulary of manufacturers such as LDP full
package (land and duty paid). From businesses that were simply
maquiladoras, it has moved to companies that offer full package,
attractive to buyers who, taking advantage of the geographic
position, search for quick response to the market.
