350
textile and apparel executives met in New York City in November,
to discuss this issue during the 15th Annual Conference on Trade

by the United States Importers Association (USA-ITA) and the American
Transportation Association (AISA).
Quota elimination:
The elimination of quotas by the year 2005 has been a topic
for headlines, presentations and discussions throughout this
year, and as the date nears, the perception is of an effect
similar to the “millennium” bug or what has been called the “Y2K
phenomenon” of the industry.
Quotas will be gone on January 1, 2005 however, 2004 will be dominated
by quota problems since there will no longer be carry forward.
We can expect high use and embargos, mainly of some products such
as knit fabric shirts and blouses, slacks and shorts, and sweaters. |
