The denim available in the market had basically become a boring product for consumers. There was always the question: “Light or dark denim?” But apart from those choices, there were no other.

Today, however, denim is going through another dilemma. Buying denim has become a science. Jeans come in an array of styles: from old jeans, to jeans with stripes, frayed and cut. Also, they have become decorative with features such as embroideries, stamped and dyed.
According to American surveys, women between the ages of 16 and 24 have on average eight pairs of jeans. Three quarters of women say Denim plays a dominant role in their closet; and almost 78% of women say that they would buy at least one or two denim items during the next year.

Keeping this in mind, when consumers decide to purchase jeans, going basic is old fashioned.

“You can find basic jeans from prices of $20 to $200, but the ones we sell the most are the unique ones, not the five-pocket jeans,” says the owner of a Florida jeans boutique. She adds, “You have to have basic jeans, but most consumers have too many basic jeans in their closet. What is mostly sold are washed jeans with different designs”.

¿ How different? The industry looks for washes such as “vintage” jeans that appear to have been used for the last 20 years. Also, finishes combined with aluminum and felt have become popular.

Denim is also setting trends in the fashion world as well as gala and black tie events.

Using denim is no longer taboo when substituting suits or dresses, combined with different fabrics and jewels to give a hip yet elegant image.
